Black Book: March 2026 retention index 147.7, up 1.9% (2.7 pts) MoM

Black Book’s seasonally adjusted Used Vehicle Retention Index for March 2026 rose 1.9% (2.7 points) to 147.7 from 145.0 in February.

The index is essentially flat versus a year ago, sitting 0.1% below March 2025 (147.9).

What this means for dealers: Spring used pricing is showing more stickiness than expected. Tighten ACV discipline on fast-turn units, and keep recon cycle time tight so you are not holding cost into a softer week.
